Baked Yams with Maple Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Butter

Today, we went over to my buddy Tim’s house for a BBQ lunch. We were asked to bring a dish, so we brought along some yams with a killer butter concoction that I make.

I’m not a big fan of cook books, so I pretty much freestyle cook everything. In my opinion, it’s a heck of a lot more fun to cook this way. So… do you want to know the ingredients, mixing instructions, and baking instructions? Here you go!


  • Four Medium Yams
  • Maple Syrup
  • Brown Sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Clover Honey
  • Real butter

Mixing Directions:

Just place a half-stick of butter in a mixing bowl, and sprinkle in the brown sugar and some cinnamon to your liking. Next, fold in some maple syrup and mash with a fork. To make things easier, you can microwave the bowl for about ten seconds. Then mix again with a fork. Repeat heating if necessary. Place butter mixture into a serving bowl.

Baking Directions:

Before placing the yams into the oven, puncture the yams a few times with a fork. Next, slice each yam length-wise about halfway through. Place each yam in a tinfoil wrap, leaving the top open. Next, drizzle some maple syrup and honey onto the yam. If desired, spoon some butter mixture onto the top of each yam. Place each yam onto a cookie sheet. Set your oven to bake at 400 degrees, then place the cookie sheet in the oven on the middle rack. It should take approximately 40 minutes to cook the yams.
